IAMPE CONGRATULATES RECENT MEMPHIS INLAND GRADUATES

The International Association of Maritime and Port Executives (IAMPE) is pleased to announce its latest class of Inland Maritime Port Executives (IMPE), as well as the very first class of Inland Marine Terminal Operators (IMTO), who completed certifications hosted at University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee. The University of Memphis has been an IAMPE Academic Partner since 2022 and hosted the course programs the week of September 25-29, 2023. In addition, the IAMPE certified four new Certified Maritime Educators (CME) who completed a comprehensive instructor preparation program.

The first Inland Marine Terminal Operator course was held 26-27 September and taught by faculty member Rich Diffley, AMPE, CME. Earning their Inland Marine Terminal Operator certificates were Amber Shepheard, IMTO – Office Manager, Memphis and Shelby County Port Commission; Milton Chambliss, IMTO – Port Director, Port of Claiborne County; Jason Colburn, IMTO – Port Manager, SSA; Marcus Johnson, IMTO – Operations Manager, Impala Terminals; Kyle Vickery, IMTO – Safety Director, Fullen Dock and Warehouse; Edward Lee, IMTO – Director of Facilities and Service Management, Port of Greater Baton Rouge; Tessa Andres, IMTO – Administrative Assistant, Inland Rivers, Ports & Terminals (IRPT); Aimee Andres, AMPE - Executive Director, Inland Rivers, Ports & Terminals (IRPT); Hayes Mullins, IMTO – Staff Sergeant, U.S. Army; and Donnie Rocconi, IMTO- Terminal Manager, Rosedale-Bolivar County Port.

In addition to the IMTO program, the Inland Maritime Port Executive program was held 25-29 September. The 2-day Inland Maritime Port Manager (IMPM) program was taught by Dr. Donald Maier, AMPE, CME, and the Inland Maritime Port Executive program was taught by Dale Murray, AMPE, CME. Graduates of the program also received graduate-level academic and continuing education credits by the IAMPE’s Academic partners which includes Maine Maritime Academy, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, State University of New York Maritime College, Texas Southern University, The University of Memphis, and the Australian Maritime College. The Inland Maritime Port Executive (IMPE) certification was awarded to Robert Stewart, IMPE – Transportation Specialist, USDOT Maritime Administration; Maria Kuhns, IMPE – Executive Director, Hannibal Regional Economic Development Council & Hannibal Regional Port Authority; Jeremy Kern, IMPE – Port Director, Bristol Bay Borough; Maria Cartier, IMPE – Market Development Manager, Port Milwaukee; CDR Matthew Winland, IMPE - Sector Ohio Valley Prevention Department Head, USCG; and Thalis Zis, IMPE – Assistant Professor, Cyprus University of Technology. Earning the Accredited Maritime Port Executive (AMPE) was Jackie Q. Carter, AMPE – Port Director, Port Milwaukee.

The IAMPE is pleased to announce that while in Memphis four faculty members became Certified Maritime Educators (CME). Receiving the CME award was Dr. Donald Maier, AMPE, CME - Associate Professor of Practice - Supply Chain, at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Dale Murray, AMPE, CME; Rich Diffley, AMPE, CME – Deputy Director, IRPT; and Dr. Mihalis Golias, AMPE, CME – Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, the University of Memphis. All faculty members go through a comprehensive preparation program before entering the classroom, and training material is updated and revised regularly to keep it current with the industry. IAMPE programs are reviewed and approved for certification by the IAMPE’s Board of Advisors, comprised of 20 industry and educational professionals.

The IAMPE is a non-profit industry association that provides professional development for port/ terminal maritime managers and executives, as well as certification for operational personnel worldwide. Programs are reviewed and approved for certification by the IAMPE’s Board of Advisors, comprised of 20 industry professionals. The Association offers professional and accredited programs in Coastal and Inland Port Management and Executive Management, as well as certification programs for Marine Terminal Operator and IMDG/Hazardous Awareness. The Association has over 2,600 alumni worldwide and is the only industry association offering professional certification to port managers worldwide.
