Manager, Business Development and Special Projects (Maritime)
$75,000 – $95,000 Yearly 40 Hour Work Week
PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Connecticut Port Authority (CPA), this class is accountable for directing business development and special projects initiatives domestically and internationally.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Directs staff and operations of a Business Development Division or Unit to implement marketing and sales strategies to promote (domestically and internationally) the CPA,
Connecticut’s ports and small harbors, and Connecticut’s maritime sector;
Coordinates, plans and manages special projects and strategically important initiatives; directs staff and/or contractors providing services, products and activities relating to business development, marketing, research, communications, and strategic initiatives;
Directs complex research and development activities including preparation of agency strategic planning processes and products or other strategic initiatives as required;
Cultivates relationships with owners, senior executives or leadership of businesses and organizations within the maritime sector; maintains contacts with individuals outside of agency who might impact program activities; prepares and conducts agency presentations to prospective businesses and organizations;
Attends conferences in the United States and abroad to promote the CPA and its activities and the Connecticut maritime sector;
Represents CPA before private and public agencies and on boards and committees as necessary;
Maintains contacts and acts as liaison with federal, state, municipal, corporate, community and legislative leaders to identify and resolve issues relative to impact of agency programs on local operations and programs;
Formulates division/unit program goals and objectives in alignment with agency goals;
Coordinates, plans and manages division/unit activities;
Leads staff through process improvement initiatives and maintains performance metrics;
Trains, mentors and motivates staff to achieve targets or goals;
Implements performance review standards for division/unit staff;
May assist in preparing division/unit budget;
Performs any duties as needed.

Fiscal/Administrative Assistant, Department of Administrative Services
$45,000 – $65,000 Yearly 40 Hour Work Week
PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK) In a facility or institution this class is accountable for performing a combination of basic paraprofessional work, and highly complex clerical work in fiscal and administrative functions.
GUIDELINES FOR JOB CLASS USE
This is a paraprofessional level class and can be distinguished from clerical classes by the complexity of the fiscal/administrative work, the degree of accountability for such work, the independence with which the work is done, and the degree of judgment required in applying knowledge of fiscal/administrative policies, procedures, statutes, and regulations.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs paraprofessional level work in fiscal and administrative activities; Independently performs bookkeeping and basic accounting activities such as maintaining, balancing, and reconciling an interrelated group of accounts; independently accountable for an accounts receivable or accounts payable process including varied and complex procedures and activities; prepares simple financial statements and assists in preparation of complex financial statements; calculates rates involving complex arithmetical formulas; gathers and consolidates payroll and expenditure data for budget preparation; ensures that expenditures plus encumbrances are within appropriation limits; reviews routine expenditures for compliance with itemized budgets; utilizes EDP systems for financial records and reports; independently performs purchasing functions including preparing and processing purchase orders and requisitions, authorizing routine purchase orders, and preparing requests for proposals; independently prepares renewal or new contracts based on awards; ensures that routine payments are in compliance with contract provisions; may perform routine agency human resource functions; performs related duties as required.
