From the desk of Capt. Jeff Monroe
Fellow Port and Maritime Professionals: As the fall and 2018 approaches, we here at your Association continue to focus on low cost, high quality practical professional development programs for the industry. We have now added Terminal Operations (MTO) with HAZCOM and IMDG Part 49 programs to our existing seaport and inland certifications-Port and Terminal Management (MPM-IMPM) and Executive Management (MPE-IMPE) programs. Our ongoing Continuing Education and Commissioners seminars have also provided pathways to the Accredited Marine Port Executive (AMPE) professional designation. In 2018, we will begin offering a Management Program for Vessel Operators, an Operations Course for Liquid Terminals and an FSO refresher course. After our last August Operations Course, we can look back and are proud to have had 1,185 professionals in the industry as well as military personnel and veterans take IAMPE developed programs. We are also pleased to see a number of our members now in senior management and executive management positions. The IAMPE now proudly serves nearly 2,000 members. IAMPE programs are taught only by professionals with extensive industry experience. Our faculty goes through a comprehensive preparation program before entering the classroom and all material is updated and revised regularly to keep it current. We combine personal experience with information provided by our participants, professional Board members and the project work we are engaged in. No other private or commercial program undergoes the same rigorous scrutiny as ours. In addition, we work hard to keep the cost low when there are so many other financial considerations we need to address at our ports. Our compact and flexible schedule allows participants to choose the program that fits best with their available time. We are also very flexible with participant schedule changes-their needs always come first. In addition, we offer free ongoing support to all our participants who also receive memberships in the IAMPE. We also now offer a full scholarship for one veteran making a transition into civilian life in every program. Unlike commercial programs, the non-profit IAMPE Management Seminars are accredited by the Loeb-Sullivan Graduate School of International Business and Logistics at Maine Maritime Academy. We also enjoy cooperative educational arrangements with the Inland Rivers Port and Terminals Association, North Atlantic Ports Association, Greater Houston Port Bureau, Alaska Association of Harbormasters and Port Administrators and the Maritime Exchange of the Delaware River and Bay. We share continuing education acknowledgments with Pacific Lutheran University and the University of Alaska at Anchorage. Our members, with other professional certifications, also use our continuing education credits to maintain those certifications. Ongoing professional development through education and practical experience is key to cost effective and efficient management and operations in our very dynamic and rapidly changing industry. We are committed to providing our industry with the very best in professional development opportunities. Our faculty will always maintain the highest standards and work with participants to optimize their experience. As commercial programs come and go, we ask you to consider the benefit of our programs, those of the Loeb-Sullivan School and the endorsements of our industry partners. We look forward to seeing you or your colleagues in future programs.

Our next continuing education program will be a combination seminar and workshop focused on tariffs, terminal and port service pricing, terms and conditions, facility rules and regulations and working with State agencies. In addition, we will have our usual industry update and discussion on federal regulations. This program will deal with the development and revision of tariffs and their terms as well as the wide array of service categories and pricing offered by ports and terminals. We hope you will be able to join us on October 11th and 12th in Portland Maine (0830-1700 daily). The program is hosted this year by HDR at their conference center at 970 Baxter Boulevard Suite 301, Portland, Maine04103. I will send hotel and travel information out shortly. Please contact me if you would like to register at info@iampe.org. IAMPE member cost is $975.00.
